Thorpe Park

Thorpe Park will be re-opening its doors on the 23rd March 2017 and what a thrilling treat awaits as the brand new “Derren Brown’s Ghost Train” prepares to seat its very first victims from 31st March onwards. For anyone brave enough to endure this demonic ride – expect white knuckle live action and excruciatingly frightening special effects. Definitely not one for grandma…

Since Thorpe Park is commonly heralded for its extreme rollercoasters, many parents may question it’s suitability for younger children. But rest assured – the resort will have more than enough to keep toddlers entertained!
From late spring onwards, Amity Beach is a welcome retreat for the younger ones - including babies. This is a large and well- made beach area with a huge expanse of water, fountains and slides – perfect for cooling off! The World’s first “Jungle Maze” opens this year and is suitable for all ages! Based on the “I’m a celebrity – get me out of here” tv programme, this maze will keep the whole family entertained as you navigate the “jungle trials” and battle it out to be crowned King or Queen of the jungle! There is a variety of other rides for the little ones including a lovely carousel that often has a smaller queue - making it even more attractive to parents. Use this handy tool on the Thorpe Park Website which will allow parents to choose suitable rides, based on the height of their little one.

For the pre-schoolers out there, Thorpe Park is home to a number of suitably exciting rides including Mr. Monkey’s Banana Ride, The Rumba Rapids, Rocky Express and The Flying Fish (the perfect “first” rollercoaster!) to name but a few.

WET WET WET is a fantastic little water park section packed with flumes and slides – some of which have a 1m height minimum but those under 1m can still ride as long as they are accompanied by an adult. Other fantastic rides for older children include Quantum - a fantastic magic carpet ride, Storm Surge and Tidal Wave – all of which are suitable for those with a minimum height of 1.2m.

It used to be that lovers of high adrenaline rollercoasters had to travel to America to experience the most intense of thrills. But these days, some of the newest rides at Thorpe Park are definitely in the same fear factor as favourites from across the pond. Here is our top three pick! SAW – with a 12+ recommended age ride minimum, this is the world’s first horror film roller coaster! Some love it – some hate it. But you have to experience it for yourself! Detonator – most often dubbed “The scariest ride in the park” this little beauty is guaranteed to give you goose bumps with an explosive drop of 100 feet. Nemesis Inferno – an action packed beast of a coaster reaching speeds of up to 50 mph. This bottomless rollercoaster will swing, twist and turn you at alarming intensity as you pray fervently for it to end!!
